Rabothytta – Norway's finest unattended DNT cabin!

Voted for by Norwegians who are happy to travel in the summer of 2020!

Rabothytta, DNT cabin no. 500, is located at 1200 m above sea level, right on the edge of the glacier in the Okstindan massif and with beautiful views all the way to the Helgeland coast. It has robust architecture and a unique design, which, in combination with the spectacular nature, gives the feeling of being "outside in".

Rabothytta opened in 2014 and is designed by the renowned architects Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS. It was built with the help of volunteers from Hemnes Turistforening, a small association that only had around 300 members when they started this ambitious project. The name comes from Fridtjof Nansen's good friend, the Frenchman Charles Rabot, who in 1883 was one of the first climbers of Oksskolten together with the Sami Klemet.

In 2019, the security cabin of Rabothytta was opened, and was named Klemetstua. In the summer, the cabin hosts stay here in Klemetstua, while there is room for 30 overnight guests in the main cabin, divided into six bedrooms and a loft. Dogs are also welcome, with their own dog room.

Rabothytta can be reached from several entrances around Okstindan, and the fastest way up only takes one to two hours for normally fit hikers. Maps of Okstindan can be purchased at Circle K in Korgen, among other places.

Hemnes Tourist Association has its own website and Facebook page for Rabothytta, and here you will find everything you need to plan your trip.
