In 2026, it will be 100 years since Gerhard Folgerø and his crew sailed the Viking ship replica "Leif Erikson" from Hemnesberget to the USA. The ship was built by local boat builders in Leirskarddalen, and both the ship and the voyage attracted great attention both nationally and internationally.
To mark the anniversary, Helgeland Museum has produced an exhibition about the journey. The exhibition opened on April 19, the 100th anniversary of the departure from Hemnesberget. On Hemnesberget itself, the exhibition will be outdoors in Samvirkelagsbakken by Jernvaren throughout the summer of 2026. Helgeland Museum will show the exhibition outdoors at Hemnes bygdetun on Bjerka until 2027.

Okstindan Mountain March is a real mountain hike in beautiful northern Norwegian terrain. The hike is usually arranged every other year and goes around the Okstindan massif, starting from Røssvatnet. This year, the hike ends at Inderdalen Gård in Brygfjelldalen, where the host is open and where you can pre-order food and take a shower. Along the way, there is accommodation at Kjensvasshytta, and luggage transport is offered. The entire hike is just under 50 km and takes two days, at the pace you want, with or without a guide.

Hemnes Art Association, in collaboration with Helgeland Museum, is pleased to present the photo exhibition "An Echo from Another Time", based on the Italian photographer Luca Berti's travels in Helgeland. The exhibition takes place at the Lapphella Kulturarena on Hemnesberget.
What was originally planned as one photographic journey evolved into three trips in the period 2022–2023. By bicycle, Berti visited 18 municipalities and documented places and people in black and white with an analog large-format camera.
Born in Florence, educated at the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia in Milan and living in Copenhagen, Luca Berti's work combines cultural history with timeless motifs of people, buildings and landscapes.
The exhibition shows 36 of the selected photographs from the project – which has also become a book!

The Klemetspelet is a large outdoor theatre performance that has been staged every other year since its inception in 2013. When the play is staged again in August 2027, it will have been three years since the last one. But no one has been idle since then, and the audience can expect new surprises!
The play is about the Sami Klemet Person who lived with his family at the top of Leirskardalen, under Klemethelleren – not far from Rabothytta at Okstindan – around the turn of the last century. Klemet was a man who both fascinated and frightened. The play gives a picture of a time and a society that is distant, but also with characteristics of our time. The Klemet play is performed in collaboration with Nordland Teater, Åaerjehlsamien teater and Giron Teater, where both professional and local actors participate. In connection with the play itself, a separate martna is arranged; Jamtjordmartnaden, with a recreation of the old marketplace.
In 2016, Klemetspelet received the American Architecture Prize for its sets, and in 2018, the same sets received the APDC*IDA (Asia Pacific Design Center + International Design Awards) – Excellence Design Awards for Religious and Spiritual Building. NRK TV broadcast the documentary “Bergtatt” about Klemet and Klemetspelet in 2016.
