About 12 km south of Korgen, along Fv 806, Villmarksveien, we find the potholes. Under the ice cap, and during the melting period after the ice ages, enormous masses of water were pushed forward in the valleys. For thousands of years, the flow ground stones against the mountains, and today we find the result of this work in the form of large holes in the rock – potholes, or “giants’ cooking pots”. There are over 20 pots in the area, and a hiking trail leads to the largest one, which is ten meters in diameter and 11-12 meters deep. The dimensions of these potholes make them some of the largest in the country.
The hiking trail starts from a parking lot at Fv. 806 and first goes over a hill before there is a flat descent to the potholes. The hiking trail is almost 1,2 km and it takes about 20-30 minutes to walk. A simple fence has been erected around the largest pothole and unfortunately it is no longer possible to go down into the pothole itself.
