If you want an environmentally friendly and active holiday, we recommend taking your bike and family on the train* and cycling the Wilderness Road in Helgeland.
If you get off at Bjerka station, you can start your cycling holiday with a swim in Sørfjorden right by the station, before cycling along the old E6 to county road 321 and following it for about 10 km along the Røssåga river up to Korgen. At the Korgen Center you will find everything you need to fill your backpack with the necessary equipment.
The Wilderness Road starts in Korgen and takes you all the way to Majavatn, but if you want to stay off the E6, we recommend a detour to Trofors station. Then you have covered 120 kilometers! If you want to cycle even further, you can continue the Wilderness Road through Fiplingdalen all the way down to Majavatn, but then you will have to finally get out on the E6 for a few kilometers before you reach the train station.
The wilderness road from Korgen to Majavatn is 133 km long and paved the entire way. Here you cycle along Norway's second largest lake, Røssvatnet, and through wild and beautiful mountain landscapes with views of Okstindan and Børgefjell National Park. There are several nice picnic areas along the way, and if you want to take detours by bike or on foot, there are many opportunities for that!
If you need accommodation along the way, there is camping both at Bjerka and in Korgen, as well as several accommodations along the Wilderness Road.
We recommend a detour up the cycling mountain Korgfjellet to the top at 555 m. You will be rewarded with a fantastic view of Okstindan, and possibly a swim and a soft ice cream at Korgfjellet Fjellstue!
* On the Nordlandsbanen line, you must reserve in advance if you are bringing your bicycle. Unfortunately, the regional trains between Trondheim–Mo i Rana and Mosjøen–Bodø do not have space for bicycles. Reservations for bicycle space are therefore only possible on the regional trains between Trondheim and Bodø.
