With a beating heart for Helgeland, Hi North wants to share experiences you will never forget. With a summit hike to Oksskolten and glacier hike on Okstindbreen, you get to experience beautiful Helgeland in a special and different way.
Summit hike to Oksskolten
Oksskolten 1916 m above sea level – on top of the roof of Northern Norway! The trip starts from Kjennsvatnet before continuing up towards Austre Okstindbreen. Crampons are put on and everyone connects to a rope team before the glacier walk over the glacier tongue. The glacier has been here for thousands of years and provides a powerful experience. On the other side of the Ska glacier, the glacier equipment is taken off and everyone continues towards the top of the mountain in varied and beautiful terrain. The view from the top is striking.
Glacier hiking on Okstindbreen
Norway's eighth largest glacier. The trip goes from Kjennsvatnet and up to Austre Okstindbre, which is perhaps Norway's oldest glacier at 9000 years old. At the glacier tongue, everyone puts on their glacier equipment and is connected to a rope team. Hi North will take you safely up the glacier, where everyone gets the opportunity to use axes and crampons in crevasses. No prior knowledge is necessary.
All Hi North guides reserve the right to cancel the trip due to weather conditions, or reject participants without the necessary equipment/prerequisites to complete the trip.
Summit and glacier hikes are arranged between July 1 and September 26.
The hikes are suitable for anyone in normal good shape, and are of medium difficulty.
You will need mountain boots, windproof jacket and pants, wool underwear, mittens, hat, buff, wool sweater/fleece or down jacket. It is a long hike and you must bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of drinks. Hi North provides ropes, crampons, helmets, ice axes and other necessary equipment.
