At the end of 2021, the Gjensidige Foundation granted funds to start chess courses for children and young people, as well as game nights for chess enthusiasts of all ages for a two-year period. Thanks to these funds, there have been five seasons of chess at Vallaskola, from the start in February 2022 to the closing tournament in April 2024. Several children and young people have attended throughout the period and have had good development, and in November 2023, two of them received support to participate in the Norwegian Chess Championship in Skien (see link to article in Avisa Hemnes). A big thank you to the Gjensidige Foundation!!!
Vallabotn Sanitetsforening/Vallaskolas Venner have been responsible for organizing the course and the game nights, and the association wants the offer to continue, but we are now on a break and will come back with more information as soon as we are ready to start again.
