Sørfjelltunet in Bleikvasslia – Olavsrosa and kamkaka and much more…

Bleikvassli Village Association takes good care of local cultural values in the mountain village below Okstindan, just off the Wilderness Road.

The small mountain village of Bleikvasslia received the Nordland County Volunteer Award in 2014 for many years of hard work in many areas. Everyone here is committed to doing their part to ensure that both the local population and visitors enjoy themselves. In the absence of a meeting place, they restored the old boarding school a few years ago, and today this is the heart of the village!

The community has also highlighted local history by building an authentic Sami meat shop and a Sami settlement, as well as a year-round bakery for the local specialty kamkaka. The bakery provides summer jobs and training for young people in this traditional craft.

Summer café and kamkake baking

You can come here to Gammelskola in the summer and see how kamkaka is baked, while enjoying freshly baked pastries.

Outdoor area with canoeing, barbecue area and sauna

At the queue area, a large open space in the forest right by the water's edge, the Bygdelaget has arranged a nice barbecue area with a roof. This is used extensively by both the school and kindergarten, and the annual mountain camp for children. Guests are also welcome to use the facilities here, and if you want to paddle in the river, the Bygdelaget has both canoes and kayaks for rent. In 2021, a sauna was also opened here, and this can be rented. For more information and rental and prices, contact Olav, leader of the Bygdelaget, on tel. 993 84 072.

Olavsrosa

This entire area with the old school and the parking lot is called Sørfjelltunet, and in 2017, Bleikvassli Bygdelag was awarded the national quality mark Olavsrosa for its efforts in cultural heritage protection for this particular area.
