Nature and culture

Did you know that…
– Oksskolten is Northern Norway's highest mountain (1.916 m above sea level).
– Austre Okstindbre is one of Norway's oldest glaciers and therefore very interesting for climate research.
– Røssvatnet is Norway's second largest lake
– Rabothytta is named after a good friend of Fridtjof Nansen, the Frenchman Charles Rabot. Rabot was one of the first climbers of Oksskolten in 1883.
– The Sami Klemet Persson, Rabot's mountain guide, lived under a cliff at the foot of Okstindan, and was known for his magical abilities. He now has his own historical game, "Klemetspelet".
- Okstindan nature and culture park is located in a South Sami area and a non-Sami language area
– There is active reindeer herding with several grazing districts and you can meet reindeer both in the lowlands and in our mountains.
