Goldsmith Merete Mattson

Jewellery inspired by the landscape and culture of Northern Norway.

Goldsmith Merete Mattson lives by the shore in the village of Hemnesberget. Her jewellery designs reflect her unique ability to capture forms in the surrounding landscape and ideas from cultural traditions. In her silver and gold jewellery you may see seashells, the Northern Lights and hints of the glow of the midnight sun. She has even made a jewellery series inspired by kamkaker, a traditional local bread! If you attend an official local event, you may see the mayor wearing an impressive ceremonial chain – that too is the work of Merete Mattson.

If you dream of special jewellery for yourself or your beloved, Merete will bring it to life.

Over the years, her shop has evolved into far more than a jewellery workshop. Today it is a showcase for a wide array of fine local products. Here you will also find handmade glass items, ceramics, fine photography and impressive woollen wall hangings. Local children’s books with illustrations that depict life in Hemnesberget, past and present, can also be found here, as well as the award-winning S-1500 chair, designed by the renowned firm Snøhetta and produced by the local company NCP.

Merete has been showing her work in exhibitions and competitions all over Norway.
