OKSTINDAN – with glacier views from Rabothytta

Experience easily accessible, beautiful and wild terrain, on a hike or ski trip in Northern Norway's highest mountain range with Norway's finest unattended DNT cabin!

In 1883, Frenchman Charles Rabot explored the mountains and glaciers of Northern Norway and was one of the first climbers of Northern Norway's highest mountain, Oksskolten. About 130 years later, he had Norway's roughest and finest unmanned tourist hut named after him, right on the edge of the glacier in Okstindan.

Rabot used the mythical Sámi Klemet Person as a familiar figure, and now Klemet has also had a cabin named after him, right next to Rabothytta. If you take the trip here to Rabot and Klemet's kingdom, we can promise you an architectural high mountain gem, designed by Jarmund/Vigsnæs architects. If the weather cooperates, we also promise you a panoramic view of the mountains on the Helgeland coast. And best of all, this is just one of four beautiful cabin complexes in Okstindan where Hemnes Tourist Association has arranged for you to have a pleasant stay.

More information and booking can be found on the Tourist Association's own pages, see link in the margin. Here you will also find a link to information about current corona measures at the cabins.

There are many nice access points to Okstindan, and it is quite possible to visit the cabins on a day trip. Rabothytta usually has hosts selling coffee and waffles during the day during the summer season. Kjensvasshytta is now wheelchair accessible, and is the only cabin you can reach by car (summer season only).

Although more people have discovered Okstindan in recent years, there are still large untouched areas where you can walk for hours and only encounter reindeer and sheep.

If you would rather see Okstindan from a distance, we recommend a drive over Korgfjellet on the old E6 instead of driving through the Korgfjellet Tunnel. Here you can enjoy views of Okstindan and Svartisen, as well as a good meal at Korgfjellet Fjellstue (reduced opening hours and partially closed road during parts of the winter season).

The main image above shows Rabothytta as they may someday be transformed into an ice castle in winter. The image was taken by Hans Kristian Krogh Hanssen. In the link "Winter in Okstindan" on the right you can see more images of Okstindan dressed in winter clothes
