Okstindan Nature and Culture Park is located in an area with long traditions from the Ume Sami culture as well as the Southern Sami. There is active reindeer herding here with reindeer grazing both in Okstindan and several of the other mountains.
At Hemnesberget, the Ume Sámi artist Jørn Rivojen Langseth lives and offers an exhibition of the most beautiful wood and bone works with Sámi ornaments. Jørn also runs the Ume Sámi Resource Center, and will eventually offer more experiences in connection with it.
Klemetspelet
Every other year, the legendary Sámi Klemet Person is honored with an outdoor historical musical play, focusing on the interaction between the Sámi and the local population at the end of the last century. The next opportunity to see the play is in August 2026.
