Entrance gates to Okstindan

There are many nice access points to the 11 mountain peaks in Okstindan.

Below we present the four most commonly used starting points for hikes into Okstindan during the summer and provide approximate distances to the DNT cabins, as well as estimated time at a normal leisurely pace. All trails are marked either with signs or red Ts.

INDERDALEN FARM in Brygfjelldalen (342 m above sea level)
12 km from Korgen – follow Fv 806 towards Bleikvasslia, turn left after approx. 6 km and drive Fv 323/Fv 7354 to the end of the road. Somewhat narrow, but paved road all the way. Large free parking space with information board. Sanitary building with free toilet. Possibility to shower and borrow towels/soap (kr. 75,-). Café and farm shop open occasionally. Mobile coverage at Inderdalen farm.

Inderdalen Gård – Gråfjellhytta (1000 m) – 7 km/3 hours.
Inderdalen Gård – Rabothytta (1200 m) via Gråfjellhytta (1000 m) and Mørkbekken (680 m) – 18 km/ 8 hours
Inderdalen Farm – Rabothytta- via Sjurfinnheimen – 11 km / 5 hours
Inderdalen Gård – Rabothytta – via the glacier (only for experienced people, not marked)

LEIRBOTN / TIPPEN in Leirskardalen (650 m above sea level)
18 km from Korgen – follow Fv 322/Fv 7352, a narrow paved road with varied standards for 13 km. Then continue on a narrow and steep construction road for approx. 5 km (closed in winter). Large parking lot at Tippen with information board. Fv 322/Fv 7352 crosses several private farms, so be considerate and keep your speed low. No toilet available between Korgen and Rabothytta. Poor mobile phone coverage from the construction road.

Leirbotn – Rabothytta (1200 m) – 5 km / 2 hours
Leirbotn – Kjensvasshytta (525 m) – 10 km / 3 hours
Leirbotn – Gråfjellhytta (1000 m above sea level) – 6 km / 3 hours (NB: this short route is now difficult because you have to cross a glacier. A longer alternative via Sjurfinnheimen is possible)

KJENSVATNET (525 m above sea level)
120 km from Korgen – follow E6 to Mo i Rana, E12 towards Sweden and turn left just after the tunnel in Umbukta. Continue on a gravel road of varying quality for 40 km all the way to the cabin.
The road is closed for the winter until the end of June/beginning of July. There is ample parking at the various starting points for the tours. A public toilet with universal design is available at Kjensvasshytta.

Kjensvasshytta – road accessible all the way. Information board.
Kjensvasshytta – Gressvasshytta – 4 km. driveable road to parking at Gressvassdammen. Then marked trail 8 km /3 hours. Can also start at parking at the ascent to Oksskolten.
Kjensvasshytta – Rabothytta (1200 m above sea level) – 10 km / 4 hours. Parking at Kjensvasshytta.
Kjensvasshytta – Oksskolten (1916 m) – 2,5 km driveable road to parking. Information board. Then 7 km / 8-10 hours round trip. Unmarked path from the glacier. Glacier equipment required. Also possible to walk around the glacier, but then you have to cross the Oksfjellelva almost at Gressvasshytta before following the signs to Oksskolten. SPJELTFJELLDALEN / GRANHEIM by Røssvatnet (approx. 390 m above sea level)
56 km from Korgen – follow Fv 806 to Bleikvasslia and then turn left onto Fv 324/Fv 7356 towards Nymoen. Good parking on the west side of the bridge. Asphalted road all the way. Information board and accommodation options at Stekvasselv Gård, 2 km. before parking.

Granheim – Gressvasshytta – 18 km / 6 hours. Follows the Nordland Route through the Spjeltfjelldalen conservation area.
Granheim – Kjensvasshytta (525 m) – 28 km / 10 hours. Same route to Gressvasshytta.
